How to Edit and Make Awesome Audio Effects in After Effects?

For audio editing, After Effects is typically used, but it is not a good choice for animation work. However, AE has some excellent audio effects that complement the visual effects. In this article we will discuss about How to Edit and Make Awesome Audio Effects in After Effects?

Top 10 Best Must-Have Audio Effects for After Effects:

The Effects panel in After Effects contains ten drag-and-drop audio effects. Even though Premiere has all these effects, it can sometimes be easier to create audio alongside images in After Effects.

1. Backwards Effect:

The fun of the reverse effects is endless. The audio is played backward using this straightforward drag-and-drop effect. Reverse audio effects only alter the audio, not the video, in contrast to time reversal effects, which alter the entire clip (visual and audio).

2. Effects for bass and treble:

As you can probably imagine, the Bass and Treble effects let you change your audio’s bass and treble. You can increase or decrease the audio’s highest and lowest frequencies with this straightforward effect.

3. Impact of delay:

You can create an audio delay that repeats echoes over the rest of your audio using this amazing effect. You will be able to adjust the delay time and amount, feedback, and dry/wet when effects are added.

4. Effects of a Flange and Chorus:

Flanging and Melody are two adjustment impacts that make circles in the sound with fluctuating frequencies and measures of postponement. Chorus allows for long delays in the effect, whereas Flange provides a very short reverb (typically around 20 milliseconds).

5. Effect of a High-Low Pass:

You can block audio frequencies above or below a certain point with the High Bass effect. A cutoff frequency slider and dry and wet settings are added by this effect.

6. Influencing effect:

Only delay effects and modulator effects are comparable. You can extend the delay between each repetition rather than repeating at predetermined intervals. The audio versions that are time-delayed might get longer over time.

7. EQ Parameters’ Effects:

You can adjust levels, precise frequencies, and bandwidth/range with a parametric equalizer. A precise effect that finely adjusts the overall sound level is the Parametric Equalizer.

8. Effect of reverb:

The repeated vibration of the audio signal on the surrounding surface is known as reverberation. A reverb effect, which can be used digitally, or a physical instrument like a guitar tremolo/vibration bar can be used to create a reverb.

9. Effect of Stereo Mixer:

The pan control found in Premiere and Final Cut is now available with the Stereo Mixer effect. You have complete control over the stereo orientation of the audio you’re listening to by panning left or right.

10. Effect of Pitch:

Pitch effects are strange little SFX that combine up to five frequencies to produce a single pitch. Consistent sounds, like the hum of an air conditioner, can be made with pitch effects. Pitch effects need not be added to the sound layer, unlike other audio effects. Adjustment layers and solid layers are also compatible.

In After Effects, how do you edit and use audio effects?

Most audio effects are effective when combined with other effects to produce novel or distinctive sounds. With two effects and some cuts, let’s see how to make cool glitchy music.

Step 1: Include a glitch effect.

We need to add some slices and remove some frames to produce a glitch effect that works. This is the same as adding bugs to your video.

  1. Locate the location on the track where you want the error to take place.
  2. Focus close on the track. To see how your sound looks, expand the audio and audio waveforms in the Layers panel.
  3. To split the layer, position the play head over the first cut point and press Cmd+Shift+D or Ctrl+Shift+D.
  4. Divide the audio into separate tracks and advance each frame at a time.
  5. Go back and delete all the other frames when you get to the point where you want the glitch to end.
  6. Press Cmd+Shift+C or Ctrl+Shift+C to highlight all the audio layers. Click OK after giving the new compound clip a name.

Step 2: Add a high-low pass effect.

Limiting audio track frequencies is made easier with the high and low pass effects. You’ll get a great sound from this, and it will help you with steps 3 and 4.

  1. Add “High Low Pass” to your audio compilation by searching for it in the Effects panel.
  2. Go to the Effect Controls panel and select the necessary layer on the timeline.
  3. Select the High Pass filter option.
  4. Set the dry cutoff frequency to zero and the wet cutoff frequency to 200.
  5. Press Cmd+D or Ctrl+D after selecting the High-Low Pass effect from the Effect Controls panel. Set Wet Out to 100 and Cutoff Frequency to Low Pass under Duplicate Effect.

Step 3: Add treble and bass.

Adding some bass and treble to your track is the final step. You’ll need two, just like with the high-low pass effect.

  1. Find Bass and Treble in the Effect Controls panel, and then add them to your audio clip.
  2. To copy an effect in the Effect Controls panel, select it and press Cmd+D or Ctrl+D.
  3. Set the first of the Bass & Treble effects to 50 and -100, respectively.
  4. Set the Bass to 0 and the Treble to -100 for the second effect.

After Effects does not support standard audio editing. Before using dedicated audio software, more in-depth audio editing solutions are available in Final Cut Pro, Davinci Resolve, and Premiere Pro. AE, on the other hand, has several audio effects that make it easy to quickly create sounds that match the look you want to achieve.
